Job Description

Mechanical Engineer – Maritime Sensor Systems

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our talented team of engineers and scientists and contribute to the design and development of ruggedized, modular systems built for extreme marine conditions. This is an opportunity to work on cutting-edge ocean technology and help shape the future of maritime AI and environmental monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement weatherproof (IP67+) hardware for maritime sensor systems.
  • Integrate modular sensor attachments for various maritime technologies.
  • Develop mounting solutions for deployment across diverse vessel types and offshore installations.
  • Implement thermal management solutions for onboard AI processing units.
  • Optimize cable routing and waterproof connectors to ensure IP67+ compliance.
  • Design sealed access panels to balance maintenance accessibility and environmental durability.
  • Ensure EMI shielding and interference minimization, adhering to FCC and maritime EMC standards.
  • Collaborate with electrical, AI, and software engineers to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Document hardware configurations, integration procedures, and maintenance protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • Experience designing rugged enclosures for marine, aerospace, robotics, or industrial applications.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of corrosion-resistant materials (marine-grade aluminum, stainless steel, composites).
  • Expertise in IP67+ sealing techniques (gaskets, waterproof connectors, cable glands).
  • Familiarity with thermal management (heat sinks, passive/active cooling in sealed housings).
  • Ability to design vibration-resistant mounting solutions (MIL-STD-810 compliance a plus).
  • Understanding of EMI shielding techniques and maritime safety standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate in a remote team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing sensor enclosures for AI or edge computing hardware.
  • Knowledge of marine power systems (12V DC, 24V DC, AC conversion).
  • Background in autonomous maritime systems, robotics, or environmental monitoring.
  • Interest in UAP science, ocean monitoring, or cutting-edge maritime technology.
